Bilingual subtitles on YouTube, in a free Chrome extension
Learn a language with the YouTube videos you already watch. Bingelang shows each line in the language you’re learning with its translation, translates a word when you hover over it and counts your listening time.
Free, for Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer. Requires a Bingelang account.
What it does on YouTube
Bilingual subtitles
Under the video, each line in the language you’re learning, with its translation below. You can hide the translation and reveal it when you need it.
A word’s translation on hover
Hover over a word to see its translations and its dictionary form. The video pauses while you read. When Bingelang has a card for the word, you can add it to your reviews.
Your listening time
Time spent listening in the languages you’re learning counts toward your daily goal, streak and level on Bingelang. Ads, pauses and muted videos don’t count.
8 languages to learn
It works with YouTube videos in these languages. You choose the translation language: French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, and Portuguese (BR).

What happens to your data
Once you’re signed in, the extension sends Bingelang which YouTube videos you listen to in the languages you’re learning, and for how long, to count your listening; and the words you look up (their base form and proposed translations), to show their cards and choose the next ones to create. Subtitles and sentences stay on your computer. The extension sends nothing to an AI provider, and Bingelang doesn’t sell this data or use it for advertising.

Is it free?
Yes. The extension is free, like Bingelang. It needs a free Bingelang account, which you can create from the extension.
Does it work in Edge and Brave?
Yes, on a computer: it works in Chrome, Edge and Brave. It doesn’t work on phones and tablets, or in Safari and Firefox. In Edge, first allow extensions from other stores on the Chrome Web Store page.
How do I install it?
Add it from the Chrome Web Store, then sign in to your Bingelang account in the tab that opens. Play a YouTube video in the language you’re learning: the Bingelang subtitles appear.
Which videos does it work on?
YouTube videos that have subtitles in the language you’re learning, including automatic subtitles. A video without subtitles in that language gets no Bingelang subtitles.
Does it work on Bingelang’s videos?
Yes: its subtitles and hover translations also appear in Bingelang’s video player. Reload the page after installing it. On Bingelang, your time is counted by the site itself, never twice.
