Sedersi

to sit down

Irregular verb, gerund sedendosi, past participle seduto, auxiliary essere.

  • Mi, ti, si

The pronoun comes before the verb, mi siedo, and before the auxiliary: mi sono seduto. It attaches to commands, siediti, and to the infinitive and the gerund. A ban to tu has two orders: non sederti / non ti sedere.

  • Two forms

The tables show the common forms, mi siedo, mi siederò, che io mi sieda. Also correct, but rarer: mi seggo, mi sederò, che io mi segga.

  • Passato remoto

The passato remoto has two series: sedetti, sedette, sedettero, shown here, and sedei, sedé, sederono, also correct but less common.

Lei, the polite you, takes the form of lui / lei: Lei parla.

After essere, the participle agrees with the subject: andato, andata, andati, andate.

Underlined: the stem is not the infinitive’s.
