Tell off

réprimander

Irregular verb, phrasal verb.

  • Phrasal verb: off

Only tell changes; off stays the same: told off, told off.

  • Object in the middle

The object can go before off, as the card writes it: tell someone off. A pronoun always does: tell them off.

In speech, the helping verbs shorten: I’m, he’s, we’re, I’ve, I’ll, I’d.
